Today was a fun day of freelance. The state put on a festival for the public. I was hired on as a caricature artist. I drew people into cartoons. The state was wanting us to bust out 1 person per 5 mins. I was meeting the deadline everytime. We were going for more speed than accuracy. My hand hurts. I did this for 5 straight hours. I lost count on how many I did. Overall It was a lot of fun, and I put a lot of smiles of kids faces. Here is a quick video my boss captured when I was in the zone.
I have animal animations for my new demo reel. Now I need human animations. I need realistic, natural feeling, human animations.
There are many free rigs online waiting to be animated. I believe the animation needs to match the character. The more cartoony the character looks, the more cartoony and exaggerated the animation needs to be. The more realistic the character looks, the more natural and subtle the animations need to be. Just about every free rig I found was very cartoony.... This was an issue. Video games studios want realistic animations not cartoony.
I extended my search to 3D models. Then I figured I could rig them myself using Mixamo.com. I found The Assassin's Creed 3 model. I ran it through the auto-rigger...
January 1, 2016 Dog Animations Complete : Walk, Prance, and Run Cycles
What a great way to start off the new year! I finally finished phase 1 of my new demo reel. Video game studios want to see natural animal animations. They also want to see cycles ( looping animations ). So I combined them all in the animation below.
I am very happy the way this study turned out. I learned a lot. Believe me it was a struggle to finish. Working 60 hour weeks drains out all of your motavation. When I get home I barely want to animate. I am so tired from working I just want to veg out on the couch. Either way I am going to keep fighting the good fight. My next series of animations will invovle humans and motion capture.
It has been offically a year since graduating Full Sail University with a Bachelors of Computer Animation. I have had the pleasure to work on many awesome projects. I ran out of work, and now currently do not have a job in the animation industry. Please read on to hear my story so far.
Right after I graduated, I got my firsr gig! I worked remotely from my house. I was a n-betweener and clean up artist for Echo-Bridge. The in-betweener drew out the frames in-between the animator's key frames. The clean up artist was responsible for the final look of the animation. While working there I had the honor to work on the following cartoon shows : " Major Lazer," and " Axe Cop ."
It was a really cool experience to work on these shows. I...
A animated, " take" is a acting move in which shows the characters reaction to something. In school we had to do speed takes. We only had 4 hours to complete a take. I managed to recover this old file. I thought it was cool so I decided to share. I wanted sale the scene, where they are on a movie date. The movie was a scary movie. This is old student work so please do not judge too harsh.
October 13, 2015 : Surfing... Skating... I love it all!
When I am not animating or working 60 hour weeks to keep up with the struggle, I love to stay active. Deep down in my heart if there is one sport I love almost as much as animation. That sport is surfing. Actually one of the largest growing sports since the 70's. I live on the beach for a long time, and surfed over 200 days of each year. The largest wave I surfed was around 15 feet. Admittfully I was scared, but that's part of the rush. When I can't surf I love to skate. I only skate, because I do not live by the ocean anymore. Therefore I can't surf. So skating satisfys my surf cravings between surf trips.
Here is a photo of me about to get into the barrel of a wave.
This is my first time surfing the #1 surf spot on the the ea...
I been busy this month. Taking care of freelance. I also had an art test. I finally had time to finish this animation. Games are headed more realistic these days. So my animation needs to have a more natural feel. This is my final look for my dog walk cycle. Eventually I will add more to this. I plan on adding a prance, and run. Thanks for watching!
I am starting a new reel. I need more natural like animations to my reel. Video games are headed to be as realistic as possible. So my animations need to be the same. Right now my demo reel is very cartoony. I decided to add some animal animations to my new reel. This is my first WIP post for my dog animations. Thanks for watching!
Ever wondered how to swap out textures on the same mesh? One day I saw a facial rig that swapped out normal maps to reveal wrinkles. I saw that this was revolutionary. After some critical thinking, and some experiementation. I can say that I proudly figured it out. Watch the video on how to swap out your textures. In a nutshell all you need is a Layered Texture, Set Driven Key, and a Ramp.
