Today was a fun day of freelance. The state put on a festival for the public. I was hired on as a caricature artist. I drew people into cartoons. The state was wanting us to bust out 1 person per 5 mins. I was meeting the deadline everytime. We were going for more speed than accuracy. My hand hurts. I did this for 5 straight hours. I lost count on how many I did. Overall It was a lot of fun, and I put a lot of smiles of kids faces. Here is a quick video my boss captured when I was in the zone.
I have animal animations for my new demo reel. Now I need human animations. I need realistic, natural feeling, human animations.
There are many free rigs online waiting to be animated. I believe the animation needs to match the character. The more cartoony the character looks, the more cartoony and exaggerated the animation needs to be. The more realistic the character looks, the more natural and subtle the animations need to be. Just about every free rig I found was very cartoony.... This was an issue. Video games studios want realistic animations not cartoony.
I extended my search to 3D models. Then I figured I could rig them myself using Mixamo.com. I found The Assassin's Creed 3 model. I ran it through the auto-rigger...
January 1, 2016 Dog Animations Complete : Walk, Prance, and Run Cycles
What a great way to start off the new year! I finally finished phase 1 of my new demo reel. Video game studios want to see natural animal animations. They also want to see cycles ( looping animations ). So I combined them all in the animation below.
I am very happy the way this study turned out. I learned a lot. Believe me it was a struggle to finish. Working 60 hour weeks drains out all of your motavation. When I get home I barely want to animate. I am so tired from working I just want to veg out on the couch. Either way I am going to keep fighting the good fight. My next series of animations will invovle humans and motion capture.
