Motion Capture in Maya : 3 Part Series

March 21, 2016 Motion Capture in Maya : 3 Part Series

Here is a 3 part tutorial series on motion capture in Maya.

Part 1 : Setting up the HIK rig

In this video I show you how to set up the HIK rig in Maya. This rig is then applied to your animation so you can push the animation further.

Part 2 : Understanding the HIK and Animation Layers

This video breaks down how to use the HIK rig. I will show you how to use animation layers. I will show you how to use the power of "Override" to conserve you original animation. I will also show you the " weight " function in the channel box. I apologize my recording cut off at the end of this tutorial. All I did to extend the time line 15 more frames, was just added a frame in-between each keyframe.

Part 3 : From Real Space to In place

This is part 3. This explains how to bring an animation from moving in real space ( much like we do in our world) to in place (like a cycle or a treadmill). Make sure you select the hips last.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about Motion Capture in Maya. I hope you learned something new.
